Miscellaneous Projects

Running CatMage Dice was a lot of fun because it gave me the opportunity to flex my creativity on my own terms! When I wasn’t working on making dice to sell, I found other ways to explore and be silly with the medium. In a lot of ways, selling dice through the shop ended up feeling like the busy-work in between these spontaneous passion projects!

Below are a collection of some of the miscellaneous projects that I made over the course of running CatMage Dice. Each section is an accordion panel, so click on the header name to expand the content within.

Balance is an important factor when it comes to dice, and handmade dice are no exception. The original CatMage Dice website even had this FAQ/disclaimer on the about page since I got asked the question fairly often: “Handmade resin dice in general are not precision-machined to ensure an exact weight distribution, and for that reason alone I would not recommend using any handmade dice outside of a lighthearted TTRPG setting.”

For April Fool’s 2023, I created a set of dice that were purposefully as unbalanced as possible using lead fishing weights, and promoted them as if they were a new product offering. Below is a recreation of the custom landing page:

See These Dice In Action!

I made a set of Spongebob-inspired dice just for fun!

And then I recreated a classic scene from the Band Geeks episode shot-for-shot using a handmade miniature set complete with props and using the dice as characters while I overlaid the episode audio.

Since a major selling point of CatMage Dice was designing custom dice based on peoples’ D&D characters, I decided to use my own character Ruby as the featured example throughout the website! I created my own set of custom dice based on her character.

My friend and DM, Shiloh, was generous enough to stage a photoshoot of Ruby’s painted mini and her dice facing off against a dragon!

I filmed the dicemaking process for 2 commission dice sets that I made! 

Although I never went the “dice influencer” route while running CatMage Dice, I did have one company reach out and offer me a free giveaway product in exchange for filming a review! I had a lot of fun filming the review portion of the video, and then realized that the mold could also be used in the oven.

So naturally I decided to make a cake with it, too.
