Idea Roadmap Overview

I have a lot of ideas for things I want to add to the website! Mostly they’re all fun, silly experiments just to see how far I can push what’s possible.

Whenever I say “oh, wouldn’t it be cool if-“, I’ll add the idea to the list. Just because something is on the list doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll happen, and I won’t force myself to follow through on all of them. It’s just somewhere to keep all the thoughts that I was excited by, in case there’s a possibility of making them happen in the future!

Theme switcher

Let visitors switch the site’s content between differently-designed themes. Implement in a way that makes it easy to create new themes in the future without having to make any changes to the site’ content.

Environmental background

Create the website background behind the content by placing custom-drawn SVGs of trees, telephone poles, flowers, and grass to look like you’re in a forest meadow. Randomize the placement of individual trees and flowers each time the page is loaded.

Idea Backlog

Day/night cycle

Modify the environmental background to include a day/night cycle that changes the colors. Include a sun, moon, and stars that move across the sky.

Weather

Modify the environmental background to include randomized weather events, like wind, clouds, rain, lightning, and snow.

More environments

Design different environments for the background besides just the forest meadow, such as a desert, beach, snowy mountains, etc.

Wolf Maker

Create an embedded “wolf maker” using my own lineart. Allow visitors to choose between a few body shapes/types, layered coat markings/patterns, custom color picker, and other premade options (missing limb, different tail types, different ears, different eye shapes, different expressions, etc.) Generate a ref sheet with the selected colors and allow visitors to export the file.

2D Map

Create a custom world map that visitors can click on to load into a lobby of different biomes/environments. Connect the wolf maker to an account system and allow visitors who are logged in to see their wolf placed in the environment with some simple animations (like a shimeji-style digital pet!)

Roleplay forum

Create a forum similar to Proboards text-based forums where users with accounts can connect their wolves to a character profile and roleplay with one another. Include a ‘chapter’ timeline to allow for chronological plots and progressive storytelling, and link the map to locations within the roleplay world.

3D open world

Model a 3d environment based on the map biomes, and models based on the different wolf body types included in the wolf maker. Translate the drawn 2d patterns as texture maps that can then be colored based on the saved wolf data, to generate a custom wolf 3d model that matches the user’s wolf. Allow for users to explore the world as their wolf characters (ideally multiplayer.)

Video game

Develop the 3d world into a video game with survival/den-building and wolf fighting mechanics. Allow users to form groups/packs with their friends to hunt together and fight other packs to expand their territory.
